Job Description - Design Engineer

Design Engineer

Are you a creative and experienced Design Engineer with a passion for high-precision engineering? Do you want to work on cutting-edge diesel fuel injection systems that power the future of mobility?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation specialising in diesel high-pressure fuel pump technology. Based in Gillingham site, you'll support the full product lifecycle-from design and development to manufacturing and aftermarket services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design high-precision components, with a focus on diesel high-pressure fuel injection pumps.
  • Create innovative design solutions aligned with evolving business needs.
  • Analyse simulation and test data to inform improvements and concept proposals.
  • Collaborate across internal departments to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and assembly efficiency.
  • Produce 3D models using Solidworks and detailed engineering drawings using the latest GD&T practices.
  • Participate in design and development reviews in accordance with PDP milestones.
  • Apply DFMEA methodology to assess design robustness and mitigate risk.
  • Maintain a cost-conscious mindset regarding supplier and manufacturing implications.
  • Understand and apply special characteristic requirements in technical drawings.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of industry experience (preferred).

Skills:

  • Proficient in Solidworks CAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of DFMEA methodology.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with PDM process and design analysis tools (e.g., Pugh, VA/VE).
