Job Description - Design Engineer

Design Engineer

Monday - Friday: 8am - 4pm

Salary at £36,000 per annum, with a salary review after successful six-month probationary period

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join our well-established client based in Nottingham on a full-time permanent basis.

Day-to-Day Duties

  • Designing and creating 3D models of electromechanical systems using SolidWorks
  • Producing manufacturing detail drawings for both external suppliers and internal use
  • Maintaining and developing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation including machine user manuals
  • Supporting all design and manufacturing tasks related to New Product Introduction (NPI) and production machinery
  • Working with bespoke systems incorporating mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components
  • Coordinating with production teams, suppliers, and contractors to meet project milestones
  • Communicating effectively across departments, including presenting design solutions at weekly operational meetings
  • Assisting in the preparation of estimated project costs and obtaining supplier quotations
  • Staying informed on relevant industry regulations and standards

Essential Skills

  • A minimum 2:2 degree in Mechanical, Design, or Manufacturing Engineering (or a closely related discipline)
  • At least three years’ experience using CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
  • Strong understanding of bespoke mechanical systems
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills
  • Able to manage workload independently and meet project deadlines
  • Competent in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to quality

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with electro-mechanical systems, automation, or within a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies and a desire to learn more
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics integration
  • Previous experience in creating or updating technical documentation and manuals

Training

  • Ongoing support and learning opportunities within the design and advanced manufacturing teams
  • Hands-on exposure to innovative technology and product development processes
  • Room to grow into senior or specialist roles as the company continues to expand
