Job Title: Design Engineer – Bespoke Air Handling Units (AHU)

Location: Batley / Birstall, West Yorkshire

Salary: £33,000 – £40,000 per annum (Negotiable for someone who can hit the ground running) + Team Performance Bonuses

Position Type: Full-time, Permanent

Working Hours: Monday – Thursday 07:30 – 16:30 | Friday 07:30 – 14:30 (Guaranteed early finish - potentially 12pm every Friday moving forward)

An established, privately-owned manufacturer specializing in bespoke Air Handling Units (AHUs). Backed by an industry heritage spanning over 30 years and operating independently for nearly a decade, the business has built an exceptional reputation across commercial, retail, leisure, and facilities management sectors.

The factory houses a dedicated team of sheet metal engineers who have manufactured over 50 bespoke units this year alone. Due to sustained year-on-year growth and an expanding client base, a hands-on Design Engineer is now needed to join the close-knit commercial and engineering office team.

The Role

Working closely with the Director, you will take true ownership of projects from initial client enquiry through to final delivery. This is not a "cog in the machine" position; you will be directly involved in the day-to-day technical and commercial operations of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Producing accurate quotes and technical proposals for bespoke AHU projects.

Developing equipment designs and specifications tailored to customer site requirements.

Managing procurement of components, coordinating material schedules, and liaising with the manufacturing floor.

Overseeing end-to-end project management to ensure build quality and on-time delivery.

*

Conducting occasional UK-wide site surveys (hire vehicle provided).

*

Benefiting from direct mentorship and succession planning with long-term leadership potential.

What We Are Looking For

A strong mechanical engineering background with a solid grasp of core engineering principles.

*

A clear understanding of air movement, ventilation, or related building services systems.

*

CAD capability is advantageous and helpful, though sound mechanical fundamentals are the primary priority.

*

A proactive communicator with a strong work ethic who takes pride in solving problems and learning new skills.

*

Comfortable working collaboratively in a small, fast-paced office environment.

Base Salary: £33,000 – £40,000 depending on experience.

Discretionary Bonuses: Annual Summer bonus (typically £750 – £2,000) and a Christmas team bonus (£350 – £500).
