About the Role An excellent opportunity exists for a proactive and detail-oriented Security Design Engineer to join a specialist team focused on Electrical Transmission & Gas Transmission Sites across the UK mainland. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality, compliant security designs — alongside associated electrical designs (LV & ELV) — from concept to completion. You will be responsible for producing detailed security system designs (Door Access, CCTV, Power Fence) and electrical designs (LV & ELV) that meet rigorous legislative, customer, and technical standards. The position offers a "cradle to grave" project involvement, from initial site survey through to handover, providing significant variety and technical challenge. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on critical national infrastructure within a supportive and forward-thinking team. K ey Responsibilities (including but not limited to) : Produce detailed security system designs (Door Access, CCTV, Power Fence) in line with all relevant standards and specifications. Produce detailed electrical designs (LV & ELV) to support the security systems. Carry out site surveys on Electrical Transmission & Gas Transmission sites across the UK. Develop concept and detailed design packages for both internal and external review. Follow your designs through to 3rd party approval, construction, commissioning, and project handover. Produce essential technical documentation, including block diagrams, single line diagrams, wiring schematics, and cable/load/material schedules. Proactively manage design change control and identify project risks, devising contingency plans. Attend and contribute to HAZID/HAZCON and Design Assurance & Review meetings. Collaborate effectively with the Design, Construction, and Project Management teams, as well as P6 Planners. Mentor and develop new and existing engineers within the team. Ensure all company management systems and processes are adhered to. Requirements Proven experience as a Security Design Engineer, ideally within the power transmission, utilities, or critical infrastructure sectors. Experience designing security systems such as Door Access, CCTV, and Power Fence. Experience designing Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) AC systems, AC UPS, and DC systems. Proficient in Amtech (or ElectricalOM) and AutoCAD. Ability to create 2D drawings (General Arrangement/Site Layouts) and ideally 3D BIM/Revit models. Demonstrable ability to produce detailed technical schedules (Cable, Load, Material, Equipment). Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Full, valid UK driving licence with a willingness to travel to sites across the UK mainland. Desirable Skills & Qualifications: Previous Security Design experience for UK Transmission (GT or ET). Previous EC&I/Security installation experience (hands-on). Experience with REVIT BIM, Hazardous Area Design (ATEX/IECEx/Ex12), and DSEAR. 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382) & Level 4 Design and Verification (2396). Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (Ideally BEng). Working towards or achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status. National Grid Person – Substation and/or EUSR – SHEA Gas certifications.
