My client is a specialist design and build contractor delivering complex projects across the data centre, defence and energy sectors. Their reputation has been built on technical excellence, innovation and delivering projects where quality, collaboration and engineering expertise are fundamental to success.

They are now looking for a Design Manager to join a flagship hyperscale data centre project in Surrey, leading the design function on one of the UK's most technically advanced construction projects.

The Opportunity

This is a key leadership role where you'll take responsibility for design delivery from bid stage through to project completion, ensuring designs are compliant, buildable, commercially viable and aligned with programme, quality and client requirements.

You'll coordinate architects, consultants, designers and specialist subcontractors, managing design programmes, technical reviews and approvals to ensure information is delivered on time and supports construction activities.

You'll work closely with engineering, commercial and construction teams to manage design interfaces, resolve technical challenges and ensure approved information is available to support project delivery at every stage.

You'll also play a key role in identifying value engineering opportunities, managing design risks and promoting technical excellence, ensuring all designs comply with Building Regulations, CDM requirements and project specifications.

We're Looking for Someone Who Has

Significant experience managing design delivery through both pre construction and live construction phases.

A strong background working for a main contractor or specialist design and build contractor.

Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams across major construction projects.

Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM requirements and construction design principles.

Experience managing design programmes, technical reviews, approvals and change control processes.

A proven track record of identifying value engineering opportunities while maintaining quality and buildability.

Experience within data centres, mission critical, defence, energy, industrial or other technically complex construction environments would be highly desirable.

A degree or equivalent professional experience together with a relevant industry qualification such as RIBA, CIOB, ICE or similar. SMSTS and a CSCS Manager Card (Black preferred) are highly desirable.
