Are you a practical and creative Design and Technology Teacher ready to bring innovation and real-world skills into the classroom? A forward-thinking secondary school in Barking is seeking an enthusiastic teacher to join their DT department from September 2025. This full-time, permanent position is open to both Early Career Teachers and experienced professionals who are passionate about design, systems, and practical learning.

 

You’ll teach across KS3 and KS4, delivering engaging lessons that promote technical skills, problem-solving, and creativity. Whether your strength lies in product design, graphics, or resistant materials, this school is ready to support your specialism with well-equipped workshops, a collaborative team, and excellent leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality DT lessons with a strong focus on practical skills.
  • Teach a range of design disciplines including materials, systems, and graphics.

  • Promote safe and effective use of tools, machinery, and workshop spaces.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and extra-curricular design projects.
  • Foster a classroom culture that encourages creativity and independence.
  • Participate in school life, including events, clubs, and department collaboration.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • QTS and a degree in Design and Technology or related subject (essential).
  • Experience in a secondary school setting (not essential).
  • Strong practical skills and a hands-on teaching style.
  • Ability to inspire curiosity, problem-solving, and innovation.
  • Strong behaviour management and workshop safety knowledge.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil well-being.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and love for creative learning.
