Job Description - Development Scientist

Development Scientist – Heterogeneous Catalysis

  • Location: Kidlington, Oxford, UK
  • Job Type: Full-time, On-site, 6-Month Contract with potential for permanency
  • Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum (pro-rata)

Join a pioneering technology startup focused on developing innovative clean energy solutions. We are seeking a Development Scientist with expertise in Heterogeneous Catalysis to advance our sustainable hydrogen production projects.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Design and conduct photochemical experiments for catalyst development and testing.
  • Analyse data, optimise protocols, and lead performance assessments of catalysts.
  • Utilise advanced analytical techniques (TEM, SEM, XRD, XPS, EPR, Raman, IR, UV-Vis) for material characterisation.
  • Ensure compliance with COSHH regulations and maintain rigorous scientific documentation.
  • Collaborate on R&D projects and contribute to intellectual property efforts.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have the legal right to work full-time in the UK and be able to commute to Oxford.
  • PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering with relevant experience in heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Proficient in physical chemistry, electrochemistry, or photochemistry.
  • Experience with gas analysis techniques and strong lab safety practices.

Desirable:

  • 2-5 years Industrial experience, particularly in scaling up catalytic systems.
  • Knowledge of solar energy technologies.
