Director of Engineering

Novelus HR & Recruitment is supporting an established and successful engineering-led business with the appointment of a Director of Engineering based in Worcestershire.

We are looking for an experienced engineering or technical operations professional who combines strong people leadership with sound technical knowledge, commercial awareness and a passion for operational improvement.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who can bring together people, processes and performance, ensuring excellent customer service whilst developing an engaged, capable and high-performing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

* Lead, motivate and develop an experienced engineering team, establishing clear expectations and accountability.

* Take responsibility for operational performance, service delivery, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

* Develop and implement effective systems, procedures and performance measures.

* Manage departmental budgets, costs and commercial performance against agreed targets.

* Drive continuous improvement in resource planning, productivity and operational effectiveness.

* Build strong relationships across Sales, Engineering and Operations to support a joined-up approach to customer delivery.

* Manage significant customer, supplier and internal escalations.

* Develop engineering capability through coaching, mentoring and structured team development.

About you

We would welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate:

* Proven leadership experience within engineering, technical services or operational management.

* A sound technical or engineering background, ideally within industrial equipment, machinery or a related environment.

* Strong commercial awareness, including budgets, cost management and an understanding of P&L.

* Experience improving operational processes, systems and performance.

* Excellent communication, people management and problem-solving skills.

* The ability to engage experienced technical teams and build effective working relationships across a business.

You may currently be an Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, Service Manager or Technical Operations Manager looking for the next step in your career.
