BlackSquare is recruiting an experienced Dispensing Assistant for a well-established independent optical and hearing care practice in South London.
The practice offers a modern, boutique-style environment, an excellent selection of eyewear and a friendly, collaborative working atmosphere. Personalised patient care is central to the business, with the team focused on providing a professional service rather than a high-volume retail experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced optical professional who wants to develop their career within a respected independent practice.
Working as part of the dispensing team and under the supervision of a qualified Dispensing Optician or Optometrist, you will help provide patients with a professional and enjoyable experience throughout their visit.
You will act as the important link between the consulting room and the dispensing process, ensuring each patient receives appropriate advice, products and ongoing support.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming patients and delivering consistently excellent customer service
Participating in three-way handovers between the Optometrist, patient and dispensing team
Helping patients select comfortable and well-fitting frames
Making appropriate lens and lens-treatment recommendations
Taking precise dispensing measurements using digital equipment where appropriate
Performing focimetry and checking existing lens specifications
Monitoring spectacle orders and liaising with laboratories, suppliers and patients
Quality checking, fitting and adjusting completed spectacles
Carrying out minor spectacle and hearing-aid repairs
Supporting patient pre-screening and wider practice duties when required
Maintaining accurate clinical and administrative records
Processing financial transactions securely and accurately
Responding to patient questions and resolving concerns professionally
Maintaining attractive displays and a clean, welcoming practice environment
Working within your level of competence and seeking support from qualified colleagues when appropriate
Previous spectacle-dispensing experience is essential for this position.
You will also be:
Confident assisting patients with frame and lens choices
Passionate about providing excellent customer service
Friendly, professional and approachable
Comfortable working within a busy practice environment
Accurate and attentive when taking measurements and completing records
Organised, dependable and able to manage competing priorities
Confident using standard IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Enthusiastic about learning and developing new skills
Adaptable and comfortable working within an evolving role
A Level 3 Optical Assistant qualification would be desirable, although relevant practical experience will also be considered.
