BlackSquare is recruiting a GOC-registered Dispensing Optician for a highly regarded independent optical practice in Northamptonshire.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a large, established and professionally focused independent practice that combines advanced clinical eye care with a strong selection of premium and designer eyewear.
The practice offers a spacious, modern working environment and a supportive multidisciplinary team. Patient care is at the heart of the business, with the team taking the time to provide expert advice and a genuinely personalised dispensing experience.
As a Dispensing Optician, you will play a central role in the patient journey, working closely with Optometrists, dispensing colleagues and the wider practice team.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing professional and personalised dispensing advice
Helping patients choose frames that suit their prescription, lifestyle and personal style
Recommending suitable lenses, coatings and optical solutions
Taking precise dispensing measurements
Managing complex and higher-value prescriptions
Fitting, adjusting and quality-checking completed spectacles
Providing collections, repairs and ongoing aftercare
Building trusted, long-term relationships with patients
Maintaining accurate patient and dispensing records
Working closely with clinical colleagues to ensure smooth patient handovers
Supporting less experienced team members where appropriate
Contributing to merchandising, frame presentation and the commercial performance of the practice
Maintaining current knowledge of lenses, frames and developments within the optical industry
You will need to be:
A qualified and GOC-registered Dispensing Optician
Passionate about delivering excellent patient care
Confident dispensing a broad range of prescriptions and lens designs
Comfortable discussing premium frames and lens options
Friendly, professional and approachable
Commercially aware without compromising professional standards
Accurate and attentive when taking measurements and completing records
Able to communicate clearly with patients and colleagues
Comfortable working as part of a larger optical team
Committed to continued professional development
Experience within an independent or premium optical environment would be beneficial, although candidates from other backgrounds will be considered.
The position includes working three Saturdays out of four.
You will receive a set weekday off during three of those four weeks.
There is no Sunday working.
