Job Description - Early Years Educator Apprenticeship

Early Years Educator Apprenticeship (Level 2) - Happy Days Day Nursery



About the employer:



We opened our first nursery in 1991 and now operate 29 nurseries throughout the South West and Wales! With over thirty years of expert experience and an ethos to support children to become strong and motivated learners for life, we pride ourselves on providing a service to enable parents to work and live their daily lives knowing their children are cherished and cared for to the highest standard.



Overview of role:



Early years practitioners play a large role in laying the foundations for a child's future learning and development. By planning and providing a nurturing and stimulating activities, play opportunities and environment, they have the opportunity to positively influence a child's prime and specific learning and development, leaving an impact on their lives.



Key details:




  • Hours: Monday to Friday (8am to 5.30pm), 37.5 per week

  • All Year Round (52 weeks per year)

  • Wage: £6.40 per hour. This is increasing to £7.55 in April 2025.

  • Location: 204 Wythenshawe Road, Manchester, M23 0PH



Apprenticeship details:




  • Qualification: Level 2 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard 

  • Duration of course: 16 months 

  • Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated BEST UK provider!)

  • All learning delivered online/ remotely alongside role.



Full Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and understand child development, with support.

  • Work effectively as a full member of a team to maintain good practices in relation to childcare, with support.

  • Plan and organize individual and group programs in partnership with children, parents/carers, ensuring that daily activities meet the developmental needs of the children.

  • Provide care for children, set routines, and develop/encourage age-appropriate learning and socializing.

  • Ensure children learn positive behavior and provide guidance and support.

  • Prepare children for transitions (e.g., to another room, setting, or school).

  • Write/type regular observations of children and link them to the relevant framework, including assessments, 2-year reports, or other required record keeping.

  • Fulfill all legal requirements, including Health and Safety, hygiene practices, infection control, Food Hygiene, Equal Opportunities, and Safeguarding, while keeping all necessary records.

  • Provide high standards in line with Ofsted requirements or other agreed targets.

  • Attend regular staff meetings using various mediums (online, face-to-face, call, or video call).

  • Complete regular training on statutory requirements such as Safeguarding, First Aid, Health and Safety/Infection Control, and Food Hygiene.

  • Actively participate in daily cleaning routines involving and around children.

  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as required by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.



Skills & Personal Qualities:




  • Enthusiastic, and have a genuine passion for working with young children and supporting their development

  • A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Reliable, committed, and punctual

  • Professional, organised, and attention to detail

  • Previous experience working with children is desirable, but not essential

  • Confidence in your own ability to want to learn and develop



Qualifications Requirements:




  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) English (Grade 4) essential

  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) Maths (Grade 4) essential
