Electrical Design Engineer

About the Role:

You'll be joining a collaborative and well-respected automation team based in Peterborough, working across some of the UK's most forward-thinking industrial and manufacturing sites. Whether it's designing complex control panels, integrating systems, or supporting safety compliance, you'll be hands-on with cutting-edge work that makes a tangible difference to operations on-site.

With over 20 engineers in the team (many of whom have progressed and grown with the business), you'll find support, flexibility, and opportunities to keep learning while doing meaningful work from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

• Generate panel layouts and bills of materials
• Carry out LV distribution and cable calculations
• Design electrical control schematics, loop diagrams, and PLC wiring diagrams
• Develop I/O schedules and instrument block diagrams
• Support safety circuit design to BS EN ISO 13849/60261
• Prepare technical documentation and assist with project commissioning
• Liaise with site teams and lead on project commissioning and validation
• Work safely, sustainably, and in line with deadlines and compliance

Skills & Experience:

• 5+ years' experience in electrical engineering
• Background in industrial automation or food/beverage manufacturing preferred
• Strong understanding of PLC wiring systems, instrumentation, and safety circuits
• Confident using AutoCAD and ideally Amtech or equivalent
• Familiar with industrial standards and experienced in control panel fault finding

Qualifications:

• NVQ3, BTEC or HNC in Electrical Engineering
• 18th Edition certification
• Awareness of SIL ratings and PL calculations is an advantage (training available if not)
