Electrical Design Engineer

Electrical Design Engineer Office/Site Mix, Ellesmere Port £40,000 to £55,000 +

Our Client is a UK electrical engineering consultancy specialising in HV, LV and instrumentation design across the utilities and industrial sectors. They take projects from conception to completion, working on substations, switchgear, protection and control for major UK infrastructure clients and heavy-industry operators, including COMAH sites.

They are now growing and looking for an Electrical Design Engineer who can own design packages end to end and is comfortable on site as well as behind a screen.

The role You'll lead and deliver electrical design packages for industrial manufacturing and chemical process clients, from early feasibility and options studies through detailed design, construction issue and site support. You'll work closely with clients, contractors and our in-house E&I and mechanical/structural team. The role is based at their Ellesmere Port office, with travel to client sites across the UK as required.

Key responsibilities

* Delivering design packages across all stages: feasibility, concept, detailed design and issue for construction

* Designing LV and HV distribution systems, including switchboards, MCCs and transformers

* Producing cable routing designs, cable schedules and cable sizing calculations

* Preparing single line diagrams, layouts, schematics and design reports

* Carrying out site surveys and supporting installation, testing and commissioning

* Reviewing contractor and vendor documentation for technical compliance

* Liaising directly with clients and presenting design options and recommendations

Essential experience

* Electrical design experience in industrial manufacturing and/or chemical plant environments

* Design of switchboards, transformers and LV distribution systems

* Cable routing, containment and cable sizing

* Proven delivery of design packages from feasibility through to construction

* Hands-on site experience (surveys, installation oversight, commissioning support)

* Working knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant British/IEC standards

Desirable

* HV experience (e.g. 11kV / 6.6kV switchgear, protection, substations)

* Experience on COMAH or other high-hazard sites

* Hazardous area (ATEX/IECEx) design knowledge

* Familiarity with power system software (e.g. Amtech, ETAP or similar)

* HNC/HND/degree in Electrical Engineering; working towards or holding IEng/CEng
