The Opportunity

HELM. is recruiting on behalf of an established electrical contractor operating across the commercial and industrial sectors.

Our client is looking to strengthen its in-house design capability with the appointment of an experienced Electrical Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business with a strong pipeline of projects across the North West and occasionally further afield.

Working from a Greater Manchester office, you'll be responsible for delivering electrical designs across a varied portfolio of commercial and retail developments, including fit-outs, refurbishments and new installations.

You'll work closely with the estimating, project management and site teams, ensuring designs are technically accurate, compliant and practical to deliver.

Key Responsibilities

Design LV power distribution, small power, lighting and associated electrical safety systems.

*

Produce detailed electrical layouts, schematics and technical drawings using AutoCAD.

*

Undertake electrical calculations, cable sizing and network assessments using Amtech.

*

Develop internal and external lighting designs and simulations using Relux or DIALux.

*

Ensure all designs comply with BS 7671 and relevant UK Building Regulations.

*

Liaise with project managers, engineers, consultants and site teams throughout the design and installation process.

*

Attend site surveys and project meetings alongside the project management team.

*

Provide technical support throughout project delivery, resolving design queries and ensuring installations align with specifications.

About You

We're looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with a solid background in commercial electrical installations and the ability to produce accurate, practical designs.

Essential requirements:

*

Proven experience in electrical design within the commercial or industrial sectors.

*

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Amtech and Relux or DIALux.

*

Strong technical understanding of LV distribution, lighting and small power systems.

*

Thorough, up-to-date knowledge of BS 7671 wiring regulations.

*

Experience producing electrical drawings, calculations and technical specifications.

*

Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project delivery teams.

*

Ability to commute to a Greater Manchester office.

Experience working for an electrical contractor, particularly across commercial fit-out, refurbishment or retail projects, would be advantageous.
