Lead Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire
Salary: £65,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Droitwich Spa.

This is a key technical leadership position responsible for the design and delivery of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) systems across industrial and process-related projects.

You will take projects from concept and detailed design through to manufacturing, installation, commissioning and handover, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers.

The role combines hands-on electrical design, engineering leadership, site support and technical problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical & EICA Design

Lead electrical, instrumentation, control and automation design activities.

Produce and review:

Electrical calculations and load schedules

Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)

Schematics and wiring diagrams

Cable schedules and cable pull lists

Earthing and bonding designs

Panel layouts and control architectures

Instrument schedules and specifications

Functional Design Specifications

Review P&IDs, motor data sheets, mechanical drawings and client specifications.

Carry out cable sizing, fault-level, protection and discrimination studies.

Ensure designs consider safety, maintainability, accessibility and buildability.

Use Trimble ProDesign / Amtech, NanoCAD or equivalent design software.

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery

Lead and mentor electrical/EICA engineers.

Manage electrical engineering activities across multiple projects.

Coordinate with mechanical, controls, project management, manufacturing and procurement teams.

Review engineering work and promote design standards and best practice.

Support project planning, technical risk assessments and engineering schedules.

Provide technical input to tenders, proposals and project scopes.

Site, FAT & Commissioning

Conduct site surveys, inspections and technical assessments.

Support and oversee electrical installation activities.

Attend FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.

Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation and control issues.

Provide technical support to site engineers, installers and contractors.

Manage engineering punch lists and support project handover.

Update drawings and documentation to reflect site changes and produce accurate as-built information.

Documentation & Procurement

Maintain accurate drawings, revisions and engineering records.

Prepare technical submittals, BOMs and material schedules.

Support procurement with electrical specifications and purchase requisitions.

Ensure documentation issued to manufacturing and site teams is complete and accurate.

Maintain project records in line with quality procedures.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK legislation, standards and company procedures, including:

BS 7671

Electricity at Work Regulations

Health and Safety at Work etc. Act

PUWER

CDM Regulations

Machinery and EMC requirements

Relevant IEC/EN standards

ISO 9001 and applicable company procedures

What We're Looking For
Essential

HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, EICA, Instrumentation, Control & Automation or a related discipline.

Strong experience in electrical design within an industrial, manufacturing, process or utilities environment.

Good working knowledge of BS 7671 and UK electrical regulations.

Experience producing electrical calculations, SLDs, schematics and cable schedules.

Strong understanding of electrical distribution, protection, earthing and cable sizing.

Hands-on installation, testing and commissioning experience.

Experience supporting FAT/SAT activities.

Ability to interpret P&IDs, GA drawings, motor data sheets and instrument schedules.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience leading, mentoring or supervising engineers.

Desirable

Experience with Trimble ProDesign, Amtech, NanoCAD or similar.

PLC, HMI, SCADA or industrial control experience.

Instrumentation and process control experience.

Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.

Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Experience developing SOPs, work instructions and engineering standards.

Professional engineering qualification or working towards one.
