About the Role
An established and growing electrical engineering business is looking for an Electrical Designer with at least 2 years’ experience to join its team in York. Working on commercial electrical projects across the UK, you will support the design and development of electrical building services projects, working closely with project, pre-construction and bid management teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced junior designer looking to develop their technical skills and progress their career within a well-established business.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
* Producing detailed electrical building services drawings and plans using CAD software for commercial projects across the UK.
* Using electrical design software, including DIALux for lighting design and Amtech for cable calculations.
* Converting sketches, specifications and other design information into accurate 2D models.
* Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations and guidance.
* Reviewing and revising drawings in response to feedback from colleagues and clients.
* Preparing design-related documentation and reports.
* Maintaining an organised library of drawings, templates and design files.
* Supporting the bid management team with the preparation and costing of compliant tenders.
* Carrying out feasibility studies and cost analysis for proposed designs.
* Specifying, designing and planning electrical installations in accordance with current British Standards, regulations and industry guidance, including BS 7671, BS 5839, BS 5266, Building Regulations and CIBSE Guides.
* Providing technical support and guidance to project teams.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
* At least 2 years’ experience in an electrical design environment.
* Experience working on commercial electrical projects.
* Good working knowledge of CAD and 2D electrical design.
* Experience with, or an understanding of, DIALux and Amtech.
* Knowledge of relevant British Standards, regulations and guidance, particularly BS 7671.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design.
* The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and design information.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.
* A willingness to learn, develop and take on increasing technical responsibility.
