Electrical Estimator Busbar, Transformers & Underfloor Power Systems

Role Overview

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and technically compliant cost estimates for electrical distribution systems, with a focus on busbar systems, cast resin transformers, and underfloor busbar and desk electrics.

This role plays a key part in securing new business by interpreting technical documentation, producing detailed bills of materials, and compiling structured and commercially sound quotations. The estimator will work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure all submissions meet technical specifications and commercial objectives.

The position requires strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple enquiries within tight deadlines.

Estimating & Cost Preparation

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for: 
  • Busbar trunking systems 
  • Cast resin transformers 
  • Underfloor busbar systems 
  • Desk power and electrical distribution solutions 
• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and schedules. 
• Carry out detailed quantity take-offs and assessments of project scope. 
• Develop comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) aligned with project requirements. 
• Ensure all estimates are technically compliant and commercially competitive. 

Tendering & Proposal Development

• Compile clear, structured, and detailed commercial offers including: 
  • Material costs 
  • Technical specifications 
  • Lead times 
  • Clarifications and exclusions 
• Support the tender process from initial enquiry through to submission. 
• Respond to client queries and provide post-tender clarifications where required. 
• Ensure all submissions are completed accurately and within deadlines. 

Technical Review & Compliance

• Review project documentation to ensure alignment with client specifications. 
• Identify risks, discrepancies, and opportunities within tender documents. 
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and project requirements. 
• Collaborate with internal technical and sales teams to validate solutions. 

Documentation & Accuracy

• Maintain clear and organised estimating records and supporting documentation. 
• Ensure all Bills of Materials and quotations are traceable and auditable. 
• Contribute to maintaining pricing data and standard costing templates. 
• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools. 

Technical & Commercial

• Strong knowledge of: 
  • Busbar systems 
  • Underfloor power distribution systems 
• Basic knowledge of: 
  • Cast Resin Transformers
• Ability to read and interpret: 
  • Electrical drawings 
  • Single-line diagrams 
  • Schematics 
  • Technical specifications and schedules 
• Good understanding of cost structures and commercial considerations.

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. 
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines. 

Qualifications & Experience

• HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. 
• Proven experience in an electrical estimating role. 
• Experience with power distribution systems is highly desirable. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating tools.
