Electrician

1 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Reporting to the Facilities Lead, the Electrician will deliver high-quality electrical maintenance, repairs and installation works across a range of commercial and operational properties. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring electrical systems, equipment and installations are maintained safely, efficiently and in compliance with current regulations and statutory requirements.

The role includes planned and reactive maintenance, testing, inspections, fault finding and minor electrical projects, contributing to the safe operation and ongoing functionality of the Council's buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical repairs.
  
  
  


• Install, maintain and repair commercial electrical lighting systems.
  
  
  


• Install, maintain and test fire alarm systems.
  
  
  


• Install and commission Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points and associated infrastructure.
  
  
  


• Install, maintain and repair commercial electrical appliances, including electric cookers and associated equipment.
  
  
  


• Install, modify and replace electrical fixtures, fittings and accessories.
  
  
  


• Undertake fault finding, diagnostics and electrical repairs.
  
  
  


• Carry out electrical inspections, testing and condition assessments.
  
  
  


• Complete electrical certification and compliance documentation accurately.
  
  
  


• Ensure all electrical works comply with current regulations, industry standards and health and safety requirements.
  
  
  


• Liaise with site users, contractors and facilities teams to ensure works are completed efficiently and with minimal disruption.
  
  
  


• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections and repairs.
  
  
  


• Ensure tools, equipment and materials are used safely and appropriately.
  
  
  


• Support minor building services works and facilities projects where required.
  
  
  


• Comply with safeguarding, health and safety, risk management and organisational procedures at all times.
  
  
  

Requirements

Essential

• NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent recognised qualification.
  
  
  


• City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Qualification.
  
  
  


• Proven experience working as a qualified Electrician within commercial, public sector or facilities environments.
  
  
  


• Experience carrying out electrical installations, maintenance and repair works.
  
  
  


• Experience with commercial lighting systems.
  
  
  


• Experience maintaining and testing fire alarm systems.
  
  
  


• Experience conducting electrical inspections and fault finding.
  
  
  


• Strong understanding of electrical safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  
  
  


• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and electrical schematics.
  
  
  


• Enhanced DBS Certificate or willingness to undergo Enhanced DBS clearance.
  
  
  


• Ability to provide own hand tools.
  
  
  

Desirable

• City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing Qualification.
  
  
  


• PASMA Certification.
  
  
  


• IPAF Certification.
  
  
  


• Experience installing EV charging points.
  
  
  


• Full UK Driving Licence.
