We're looking for an experienced Electronic FPGA Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Cambridge. What you'll be doing As an Electronic FPGA Engineer, you'll play a key role in the design, development, verification and validation of FPGA solutions for our optical networking products. * Designing and implementing FPGA logic in VHDL for Xilinx Artix-7 devices using Vivado * Creating and maintaining low-level driver logic for interfaces including I²C and SPI * Supporting requirements capture, architecture definition and module-level design specifications * Contributing to Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) considerations throughout the development lifecycle * Writing and maintaining test benches, including self-checking test environments where appropriate * Performing functional and timing simulations to verify FPGA designs * Documenting verification activities and validation results * Ensuring robust and reliable operation through rigorous testing and review processes * Using laboratory equipment such as logic analysers and oscilloscopes for debugging and performance verification * Investigating timing, interface and constraint-related issues * Working closely with electronics and software engineers to resolve complex technical challenges * Managing XDC constraints, clocking strategies, reset architectures and clock domain crossing analysis * Achieving timing closure and generating production-ready FPGA bitstreams * Applying best practices for synchronous design, metastability mitigation and design reliability * Maintaining configuration management and release processes using version control tools * Producing high-quality technical documentation. What we're looking for You'll be a practical FPGA engineer with strong technical expertise and a passion for delivering reliable, high-quality products. In order to be successful in this role it is essential that you have: * Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience * Strong hands-on experience developing and verifying FPGA designs using VHDL * Proven experience working with Xilinx Artix-7 devices * Strong knowledge of Vivado including: Project creation and management, Synthesis, Place and route, Constraints management, Timing analysis and closure, Bitstream generation, Experience designing deterministic finite state machines (FSMs) * Experience implementing and validating embedded communication interfaces including: I²C, SPI, UART (desirable) * Experience creating self-checking test benches and performing simulation-based verification * Practical experience bringing up and testing FPGA hardware in the lab * Strong understanding of: Timing constraints (XDC), Clock domain crossing (CDC), Metastability, Reset strategies, Synchronous digital design principles * Experience using version control systems such as SVN * A track record of delivering FPGA functionality from requirements through to validated hardware It would be great if you had: * Knowledge of PCB design considerations and signal integrity principles * Experience using scripting languages such as Tcl or Python to automate development flows * Exposure to FPGA design process improvements and build automation * Experience collaborating closely with embedded software and electronics engineering teams in a product development environment Why join HUBER+SUHNER Polatis At HUBER+SUHNER Polatis, our people are at the centre of everything we do.
