Job Description - Employee Relations Specialist

Employee Relations Specialist

  • Headington, Oxford
  • £35,000 – £40,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time)
  • Full-time (4 days on-site), part-time (60%) considered

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join a dynamic HR team within a prestigious institution based in Headington. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a values-driven environment where people are at the heart of everything we do.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on a wide range of employee relations issues, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, and absence management.
  • Supporting managers and staff through sensitive and complex casework, ensuring compliance with employment law and internal policies.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Promoting best practices in employee engagement, wellbeing, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborating with HR colleagues to deliver training and development on ER topics.
What we’re looking for:
  • Proven experience in an employee relations or HR advisory role, ideally within a complex or unionised environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with sound judgement and discretion.
  • CIPD qualification (or working towards) is desirable but not essential.
