About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, global medical device manufacturer producing critical technologies used in hospitals worldwide. As part of their ongoing engineering team, they're looking for a Senior Sustaining Engineer to take ownership of complex, ongoing product and process challenges across an established product line.

This is a confidential search — the identity of our client will be shared with shortlisted candidates ahead of interview.

The Role

This is a senior-level engineering role suited to someone comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy. You'll lead elements of medium-to-large projects, working independently while mentoring junior engineers along the way.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Take the lead on engineering activities of significant scope and complexity, spanning components, systems and processes tied to medium or large projects

  • Work independently, using sound judgement to troubleshoot product-related issues and resolve advanced technical challenges

  • Oversee design testing and ensure all technical work meets required specifications

  • Prepare and maintain thorough documentation to support engineering activities, including CAD and design work where needed

  • Contribute to the development of corrective actions and propose viable alternatives

  • Ensure full adherence to internal procedures and relevant regulatory, health, safety and environmental standards

  • Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers, helping build their skills and confidence

  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed, supporting the wider engineering function

What We're Looking For

  • A university degree in engineering or a related scientific/technical discipline (or equivalent experience)

  • Around 5–8 years' relevant experience (or 3–6 years with an advanced degree)

  • Deep technical expertise in your engineering discipline, with good working knowledge of adjacent functions such as manufacturing and quality

  • A track record of leading engineers, either directly or as part of a project team

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to interpret complex technical documentation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines

  • A collaborative mindset, equally effective working independently or within a team
