National Highways have an excellent opportunity for an Engineer to join our scheme development team in the North West region.As an Engineer will undertake the identification of asset needs and develop early solutions for the asset class in scope, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards. This position can be based from either Manchester, Warrington, Preston or Penrith. You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving licence to be considered for this position and during employment. What youll be leading on Undertaking the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria. Develop early solutions for renewals and/or improvements, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability and costs. Monitor the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues. Identify, prepare briefs and manage delivery of survey works that support the renewal of assets / improvement schemes. Develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractor for improvement and renewals work. Provide technical support to Project Managers by assisting with materials approvals, vetting of contractors compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing health and safety files. Undertake reviews of third-party designs for compliance to standards, design briefs and design for maintenance requirements. To be successful Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience or equivalent, membership of professional body is (desirable). Experience in highway infrastructure design and in relevant construction and delivery methods and Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network Knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling Understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis schemes Knowledge of CDM 2015 and experience in AutoCAD (desirable) A bit about us Operations is at the heart of keeping the strategic road network moving and ensuring our customers get the best possible experience when using our roads.
