Engineering Lead - Mission Planning System

Location: Abbey Wood, Bristol

Rate: Up to £540/day (Inside IR35, via an umbrella company)

Clearance: SC (Security Check)

Role Summary

The Mission Planning System (MPS) Engineering Lead will oversee the engineering activities for the procurement, design and integration of the Mission Planning System, ensuring it is secure, safe and fit for purpose. The MPS supports multi-domain Electronic Warfare (EW) training objectives across air, land, maritime and anti-ship missile defence domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as engineering desk officer; supervise contractor designs and alignment with wider system.
• Develop design with Network Architect and CIS/Security Lead; install CIS at MOB; complete SRA.
• Liaise with JEWCS staff and NCIA; capture and validate user needs; interface on MPS matters.
• Support design reviews, ITEA and validation; maintain GEAR documentation.
• Act as SQEP on Safety Panel; ensure system safety and security requirements are met.
• Provide wider project support (document review, correspondence, stakeholder management).

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• HND/Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Software Engineering, Network Design, CIS Administration, Systems Analysis and Design).
• Relevant military or civilian engineering experience.
• Active SC clearance.

Desirable

• CISSP or equivalent security certification.
• Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or equivalent.
• Experience in Electronic Warfare systems.
• Knowledge of System Safety principles.

Key Skills & Competencies

• System/enterprise architecture (use cases, assumptions, information modelling).
• Strong customer-facing skills to capture and validate user needs.
• Experience supervising contractor designs and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
• Experience leading engineering life cycles, including design reviews and functional increments.
