Engineering Maintenance Technician

We are recruiting for a practical and technically minded Engineering Maintenance Technician to join a well-established industrial business based in the Fort William area.

This is a hands-on engineering role with a particular focus on the inspection, maintenance, repair and preparation of specialist cutting tools and equipment used within a busy production environment.

Previous specialist experience would be advantageous, but importantly, full training will be provided to enable the successful candidate to carry out all aspects of the role to the required standard.

The Role

Working within the Engineering department and alongside the wider maintenance and production teams, your responsibilities will include:

* Inspecting, maintaining and repairing a range of industrial cutting tools and saw blades.

* Replacing cutting blades and components when required.

* Sharpening, levelling and tensioning blades to the required specification.

* Following scheduled tool-change and preventative maintenance programmes.

* Accurately inspecting and measuring equipment to ensure repairs meet the required tolerances and specifications.

* Diagnosing wear, damage and performance issues and carrying out appropriate repairs.

* Working closely with Engineering and Production teams to investigate and resolve cutting and tooling issues.

* Ensuring tools and equipment are prepared and available in line with production requirements.

* Maintaining high standards of workmanship, housekeeping and health & safety.

About You

We're looking for someone who is technically minded, mechanically capable and enjoys practical, hands-on work.

Previous experience within a tool room, engineering, manufacturing, production or similar industrial environment would be particularly relevant. Experience working with saws, blades or cutting tools would be beneficial, although specialist training can be provided.

You will ideally have:

* A good practical understanding of machinery and mechanical equipment.

* Previous hands-on engineering, maintenance, machining or tool room experience.

* Good attention to detail and an ability to work accurately to measurements and specifications.

* Strong practical problem-solving and fault-finding skills.

* Good basic computer skills.

* The ability to work effectively under pressure and to production deadlines.

* A methodical approach to inspection and maintenance.

* A strong commitment to health & safety.

Experience in grinding, sharpening, blade tensioning or repairing cutting tools would be advantageous, but candidates with transferable engineering skills are also encouraged to apply.
