Software Engineering Manager
London (Hybrid) | Permanent, Full-time | Reports to the CTO
Salary: £120,000 - £130,000

The role
Our client is evolving its engineering organisation into a modern, high-performing, scalable team, and needs an Engineering Manager to lead that shift. You'll sit between technology, strategy and leadership: setting the technical culture, building the capabilities the team needs, and embedding engineering best practices across the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll work with senior stakeholders and product leaders across an international organisation to shape a long-term technology vision, while coaching engineers and setting the standard for how software gets built.

What you'll do

Lead, coach and mentor software engineers across a range of experience levels
Run 1:1s, performance reviews and career development planning
Drive hiring, onboarding and retention
Oversee architecture decisions and keep them aligned with long-term technical strategy
Stay hands-on where it counts: code reviews, design input, troubleshooting
Partner with product to define roadmaps, scope projects and prioritise work
Run sprint planning and delivery, track velocity and remove blockers
Champion testing, CI/CD, monitoring and observability
Guide incident response and root cause analysis
Translate technical concepts into business impact, and the reverse
Contribute to budgeting, resource planning and technology strategy
What you'll bring

Proven track record managing and developing software engineering teams
Strong technical background in modern, cloud-native development
Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure or GCP
Experience with Agile and scalable engineering practices
Familiarity with DevOps, microservices or data-driven architectures
Experience leading geographically distributed or cross-functional teams
Background in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
Strong communication, conflict-resolution and organisational skills
Ability to align team output with business goals while protecting solid technical foundations
