Job Description - English Teacher

Job Type: Full Time
Job Location: Thurrock
School Setting: Alternative Provision / PRU
Contract Type: Long Term

REF: SENDIRECT/191656
Rate: £195 – £280 per day
Hours: Full time
Start Date: Immediately

Are you a confident and compassionate English Teacher ready to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We’re seeking a dedicated teacher to join an Alternative Provision / PRU in Thurrock for a long-term, full-time position starting immediately.

This is a unique opportunity to teach in a nurturing, small-group setting where your ability to connect with students is just as important as your subject knowledge. You’ll be working with students who have struggled in mainstream education—many of whom face social, emotional, or behavioural challenges—and you’ll play a vital role in helping them re-engage with learning.

With excellent daily rates, a strong and supportive team, and a school culture built around compassion and high expectations, this role is ideal for someone who sees teaching as a tool for change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4 tailored to student needs.
  • Support students with SEMH needs and help them develop confidence in literacy.
  • Plan creative, accessible lessons that focus on both academic and personal growth.
  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to behaviour management.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, academic reports, and personalised learning plans.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff and external professionals.
  • Encourage a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • QTS or relevant teaching qualification (essential).
  • Experience teaching English in SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision settings (preferred).
  • Strong behaviour management and classroom presence.
  • Ability to build trust and meaningful relationships with disengaged learners.
  • A calm, patient, and adaptive teaching style.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
