About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and challenging lessons that inspire students to become confident readers, writers, and critical thinkers.

Students study a diverse range of literary texts, poetry, drama, non-fiction, and creative writing, preparing them for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations. You will foster a love of reading while helping students develop strong analytical, interpretative, and communication skills.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through literacy initiatives, book clubs, theatre visits, debating competitions, creative writing workshops, and enrichment opportunities that encourage students to engage with English beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

• Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

• Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

• Experience leading literacy or reading initiatives

• Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities

• A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
