What you’ll be doing

As an English Teacher, you will:

Deliver high-quality, engaging and appropriately challenging English lessons across the relevant key stages.
Plan and teach lessons that develop pupils’ knowledge, skills, confidence and love of English.
Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and personal development.
Promote strong progress and positive outcomes for all pupils.
Use assessment effectively to identify gaps, address misconceptions and adapt teaching.
Differentiate and adapt learning to meet the needs of pupils with a wide range of abilities, including pupils with SEND and additional needs.
Establish a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment built on mutual respect.
Maintain high standards of behaviour through consistent, fair and effective classroom management.
Contribute positively to curriculum development and the wider English department.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to share effective practice and improve outcomes.
Support pupils to become confident readers, writers, communicators and independent learners.
Develop positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and carers.
Contribute to the wider life of the school and its enrichment opportunities.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification.
Strong subject knowledge in English.

Strong classroom and behaviour-management skills.
An understanding of how to support pupils with different needs and starting points.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, follow the school's safeguarding and child-protection procedures, and act promptly on any concerns.

All staff are expected to understand and comply with the school's safeguarding arrangements, including the requirements set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). The DfE's 2026 guidance comes into force on 1 September 2026.

The successful applicant will also be expected to uphold the professional expectations contained within the DfE Teachers' Standards, including maintaining high standards of professional and personal conduct, promoting pupil progress, demonstrating strong subject knowledge, managing behaviour effectively and adapting teaching to meet pupils' needs.

‍ Early Career Teachers

ECTs are encouraged to apply.

Where applicable, appropriate support and development will be provided in line with the DfE's current arrangements for early career teachers. The DfE's current framework supports ECTs during the first two years of their teaching career and is designed to help them develop the knowledge and skills required to meet the Teachers' Standards.
