We are expanding our capability on the Royal Navy DNA account and establishing a formal Architecture Practice to support this and future defence programmes.
Role Overview
As an Enterprise Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the digital future of both Digi2al and the Royal Navy DNA programme. You will lead the creation, development, and ongoing management of Digi2al’s Architecture Practice, ensuring robust architectural governance, modern design standards, and strategic coherence across multiple defence digital portfolios.
You will be the primary architectural authority on the Royal Navy DNA account aligning complex stakeholder needs, operational requirements, and technical direction to deliver mission‑focused, secure, and scalable digital capabilities.
This is a strategic, influential role that blends enterprise‑level thinking with hands‑on architectural leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership of the Digi2al Architecture Practice
Establish and lead a high‑performing architecture practice within Digi2al, defining standards, principles, methods, and frameworks.
Shape the long‑term digital strategy for our defence portfolio, ensuring alignment with company vision and client needs.
Mentor and develop architects, engineers, designers, and delivery teams to embed strong architectural thinking across the organisation.
Create reusable patterns, reference architectures, and best‑practice documentation.
Royal Navy DNA Account Responsibilities
Serve as the senior architectural lead for Digi2al’s work on the Royal Navy’s Digital transformation.
Work closely with Royal Navy stakeholders to understand operational, capability, and technical constraints in a defence context.
Develop enterprise and solution‑level architectures spanning cloud, data, integration, identity, security, and platform services.
Provide oversight and assurance for design decisions across delivery teams, ensuring coherence with wider Navy and MOD strategy.
Contribute to portfolio planning, capability mapping, architecture runway development, and digital transformation roadmaps.
Strategic & Technical Governance
Lead architectural governance across programmes, ensuring compliance with MOD standards, security principles, and accredited practices.
Influence technical direction, technology adoption, and engineering approaches across multiple workstreams.
Ensure architecture artefacts meet the needs of multidisciplinary teams (engineering, UX, product, security, and operations).
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a trusted advisor to senior Royal Navy and MOD stakeholders.
Communicate complex architectural concepts in clear, accessible language.
Balance operational, security, user, and delivery priorities in an agile environment.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Significant experience as an Enterprise Architect working in complex, multi‑system environments.
Strong background in digital transformation, cloud architecture (AWS, Azure), data platforms, and modern integration approaches.
Experience working within UK Defence, central government, or similarly regulated environments.
Deep understanding of architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, NAF) and the ability to adapt them pragmatically in agile settings.
Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder‑management skills.
Ability to lead, mentor, and grow an architecture capability.
Desirable
Knowledge of MOD accreditation, JSP standards, and defence security requirements.
Experience working with naval, maritime, or command‑and‑control systems.
Familiarity with Domain‑Driven Design, event‑driven architecture, and API‑led integration.
Background in software engineering or technical delivery.
