Job Description - Estimator - Power Sector

Estimator – Power Sector
Location: Cambridge HQ (with flexible/hybrid working)
Salary: £50,000 - £80,000 (potential for more depending on experience)
Division: Power – 11kV to 132kV, Solar & BESS
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time + Full Benefits package and possibility for company vehicle / Car Allowance
 
Estimator Overview
My client is expanding its Power division and seeking an Estimator to support the pricing, planning and commercial delivery of projects across 11kV–132kV cable routes, solar farms, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role is critical to supporting our continued growth in the energy and utilities sector, ensuring accurate, competitive tenders and commercially robust project proposals.

Estimator Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed cost estimates for power infrastructure projects including HV cable routes (11kV–132kV), solar installations and BESS schemes.
Analyse drawings, specifications, surveys and technical documentation to produce accurate pricing models.
Work closely with engineering, design, procurement and delivery teams to validate buildability, risks and commercial assumptions.
Develop tender submissions, bills of quantities, labour and material schedules, and supporting documentation.
Conduct site visits where required to assess project conditions and validate scope.
Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and ensure accurate cost inputs.
Identify value engineering opportunities and commercial risks within tender packages.
Support bid managers and senior leadership during tender reviews, clarifications and client negotiations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market rates, industry standards and emerging technologies within the power sector.Required Experience

Proven experience as an Estimator within the power, utilities or HV electrical infrastructure sector.
Strong understanding of 11kV–132kV cable route construction, civils interfaces, ducting, joint bays, and associated works.
Exposure to solar farm or BESS projects (design, civils, electrical or installation).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and tender documentation.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of NEC contracts (preferred).
Proficiency with estimating software, Excel and cost modelling tools.
Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills.
A full UK Driving license
Full right to work in the UK - CLIENT DOES NOT HAVE SPONSORSHIP LICENSEDesirable

Experience working for a DNO, ICP or power contractor.
Knowledge of grid connections, substation works or HV switching.
