Job Description - Ethical Champion

An Exciting Opportunity to Lead Ethical Excellence Across a Global Supply Chain

A well-established and rapidly growing company is seeking a passionate and experienced Ethical Champion to take ownership of its ethical compliance function. This is a full-time role based in Witham, with travel expected to support a diverse, global supplier network.

This forward-thinking organisation operates across a complex international supply chain and is committed to the highest standards of ethical sourcing and labour practices. The Ethical Champion will report directly to the Technical Director and work collaboratively with the Procurement team to uphold and evolve the company's ethical framework.

Key Responsibilities:
Ethical Standards Development and Implementation:
  • Build and roll out an internal Ethical Compliance Standard based on external benchmarks (ETI, SEDEX, UK Retailer Codes of Practice, Stronger Together).
  • Engage stakeholders across the business to gain commitment to the ethical standard.
  • Lead supplier engagement and compliance rollout globally.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
  • Conduct and regularly update risk assessments to identify high-risk countries, suppliers, and products.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Present findings to senior leadership and during audits.
Supplier Auditing:
  • Plan and conduct supplier audits based on risk assessments and emerging global trends.
  • Travel internationally to perform audits and ensure compliance with established ethical standards.
  • Provide feedback and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
Internal Compliance and Governance:
  • Ensure manufacturing site compliance with internal and external ethical standards.
  • Own and lead internal SEDEX auditing processes.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, delivering training and support to staff.
  • Develop and maintain a governance framework, reporting regularly to stakeholders.
Candidate Profile:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years in an ethical compliance role.
  • At least 10 years in the logistics industry or a closely related sector.
  • Degree in Science, Ethics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Certification in ethical auditing or compliance (preferred).
Key Skills and Attributes:
  • Strong leadership with the ability to lead by example.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Resilient, organised, and commercially astute.
  • High attention to detail, especially under pressure.
  • Competence in Microsoft systems, SAP, and digital factory management tools.
  • Experience with Power BI is advantageous.
