Our client, an innovative company specialising in clean power management systems and EV powertrain components within the automotive sector, is seeking a dedicated EV Battery Technician for a contract role. This position involves supporting the build and commissioning activities focused on the disassembly, modification, and rebuild of vehicles for test activities. The role is hands-on and workshop-based, emphasising the safe removal and refit of LV and HV battery systems and associated vehicle modifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting vehicle build and commissioning activities in a workshop/test environment. Disassembling and rebuilding passenger vehicles to support test readiness. Performing LV/HV battery removal, safe handling, and storage in line with process. Assisting with vehicle modifications required for test, including fitment/refitment, routing, mounting, and minor fabrication. Refitting and recommissioning vehicles prior to test activity. Supporting similar activities on commercial vehicle HV battery systems (HV-classed work). Following safe systems of work, including HV safety controls, lock-out/tag-out, and maintaining build documentation. Providing build feedback on issues found, missing parts/fasteners, fitment concerns, and proposing fixes.
Job Requirements:
Proven hands-on experience as an automotive mechanic/technician with essential passenger vehicle experience. Strong electrical background in automotive work, diagnostics, wiring awareness, and handling connectors and harnesses. Experience with vehicle strip/rebuild, working methodically with fasteners, trims, sub-assemblies, etc. Comfortable working on or around HV systems with a strong safety mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recognised automotive qualification (e.g., NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent). HV qualification suitable for automotive (e.g., IMI Level 2/3/4 EV/HV or equivalent) or demonstrable HV experience with a willingness to complete training. Evidence of safe working practices in controlled environments (prototype, test, OEM, Tier 1, etc.).
Desirable Skills:
Experience with prototype build, commissioning, test-prep, or pre-series vehicles. Experience supporting battery-related modifications, including mounting, brackets, routing, and service disconnect awareness. Familiarity with build documentation, torque settings, or quality check sheets.
