Executive Editor | Middle Grade & YA Fiction | London | Permanent
Are you a process -oriented and hands -on senior Editor with a background in children’s fiction publishing? Bringing editorial management and desk editorial skills, you will lead and mentor a team of editors, edit a small number of your own titles and manage schedules and budgets for the Middle Grade & YA list to ensure efficient delivery of books that inspire young readers around the world.

Responsibilities:
- Lead editorial delivery across a diverse children’s publishing programme, ensuring titles are published on time, within budget and to a high standard.
- Manage, mentor and develop an in -house editorial team of three, creating a collaborative and supportive working environment.
- Oversee projects from acquisition through publication and commercial launch, working closely with cross -functional teams.
- Refine and embed publishing processes that support efficient workflows, clear communication and strong project delivery.
- Build effective cross -departmental relationships, including with colleagues in sales, marketing and publicity to maximise the success of titles in domestic and international markets.
Experience and skills that will deliver success in this role: The right candidate will be an accomplished publishing professional with significant editorial experience and a strong understanding of the children’s and young adult market. You will be equally comfortable balancing creative editorial judgement with commercial awareness while managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
Essential
- Extensive editorial experience within trade publishing.
- Proven success working with middle grade and teen fiction.
- Experience managing, mentoring or leading editorial colleagues.
- Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to oversee multiple publishing schedules.
- Excellent communication and relationship -building skills with authors, agents and internal stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience working across YA publishing.
- Exposure to picture books, gift publishing or narrative non -fiction.
- Experience contributing to publishing strategy, process improvement or list development.
- International publishing experience or involvement in multi -market publishing programmes.
