Job Description - Expense Business Partner

Location: London (Hybrid - 3 days on-site)

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £70,000 + Benefits

Qualification: Fully Qualified Accountant (1+ year PQE)

A leading Lloyd’s Syndicate is looking for a commercially minded and detail-oriented Expense Business Partner to join their finance team. This pivotal role supports the Head of Expenses in driving expense transparency, accountability, and process excellence across the business.

Duties include:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Expenses and business leaders to develop and manage the annual expense budget
  • Work closely with function heads to ensure budgeted and actual spend is understood, controlled, and aligned to business goals
  • Prepare accurate monthly expense reports and deliver insightful variance analysis with commentary
  • Support preparation of quarterly and annual VAT returns, coordinating with external advisors as needed
  • Lead the monthly expense close process, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and accountability (including oversight of outsourced providers)
  • Own and maintain all balance sheet and P&L reconciliations, resolving variances and ensuring accuracy
  • Review work delivered by outsourced providers to maintain high standards and compliance
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency
  • Provide ad-hoc financial support and analysis as required

My client is looking for a Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a minimum of 1-year post-qualification experience. Previous experience in an expense management or business partnering role is advantageous as is Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, formulas); comfort working with large data sets.
