Job Description - Facilities Assistant

We’re seeking a proactive Facilities Assistant to join us! You’ll be at the heart of our day-to-day operations, carrying out minor repairs and ensuring our buildings, equipment and meeting spaces are always ready for use. From maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety, to managing access systems, handling deliveries and coordinating waste and recycling, you’ll play a key role in delivering a quality service to colleagues across the business.

We are a social housing landlord and one of the largest housing providers in the region with over 22,000 social and affordable homes, mainly in the Bradford district. We employ a talented workforce of nearly 1,000 people.

Duties include:

  • Perform minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs or unblocking sinks.
  • Coordinate and liaise with contractors for larger repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g., gas, electrical, plumbing).
  • Conduct routine checks of equipment/furniture and ensure it is in good working order.
  • Furniture movement around corporate building(s)
  • Act as a keyholder for premises and manage building access systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Operate, check and test the fire and intruder alarm systems.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling services.
  • Perform general cleaning duties to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Ensure the premises are hygienic, clean, and safe.
  • Assist with setting up and arranging rooms for meetings or events.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and furniture.
  • Handle deliveries and organise storage and pick up from other corporate buildings.
  • Answer phone/Teams calls, emails and respond to repair requests. 
  • Ensure post is received, sorted, franked and posted in a timely manner.
  • Aware of the key requirements of day-to-day business needs or corporate buildings.
  • Basic experience of office/building repairs using hand/power tools with a clear understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and translating that into working practice. 
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks, manage inventories and remain flexible to switch between tasks and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the business.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with colleagues, contractors and public visiting our corporate buildings.
  • A good knowledge of the Data Protection Act 1998 and UK GDPR.
  • Experience of working with regulation, legislation and translating that into working practice.
  • Demonstratable experience of coaching, advising and training staff at all levels.

  • Starting salary of £25,105 per year
