Facilities Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a Facilities Assistant to join a busy and welcoming primary school in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, reliable, and hands-on individual with facilities, site, maintenance, or caretaker experience.

The Role

As a Facilities Assistant, you will support the site team with the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance, and security of the school premises, helping to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

* Opening and locking the school site.

* Carrying out routine security and safety checks.

* Undertaking minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.

* Assisting with furniture moves and room setups for school events.

* Receiving and handling deliveries.

* Maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the school grounds and buildings.

* Supporting health and safety procedures across the site.

* Reporting maintenance issues and hazards as required.

What We're Looking For

✅ Previous experience as a Facilities Assistant, Caretaker, Site Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Handyperson, or similar role.
✅ Practical DIY and basic maintenance skills.
✅ Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently.
✅ Flexibility to accommodate early starts or later finishes when required.
✅ Strong awareness of health and safety responsibilities.
✅ Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Essential Requirements

* Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one immediately.

* Available to start as soon as possible.

* Ability to commute to Birmingham (B18) reliably.

Ideal Candidate

This role would suit someone with previous school site experience, although candidates from facilities, maintenance, caretaking, estates, or general handyman backgrounds will also be considered.
