Family Law Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer / Billing Assistant:
A respected and well-established multiservice law firm, recognised in both Legal 500 and Chambers UK for its commitment to justice and excellence in legal services, is currently seeking a Family Law Costs Draftsperson, Costs Lawyer, or Billing Assistant to join their growing team. With a strong reputation in areas including family law, criminal defence, housing, civil liberties, and human rights, this firm offers an exceptional opportunity to be part of a dynamic and supportive environment.
About the Role:
This is an expansion role within the firm's busy Family Department. The position offers flexibility and can be tailored to the successful candidate's experience, making it ideal for individuals at various stages of their legal career.
Suitable for:
Experienced Costs Lawyers or Costs Draftsman, ideally with experience in legal aid work (particularly family law).
Legal Secretaries, Paralegals, or Legal Assistants with billing experience in legal aid.
Billing Assistants seeking an entry route into the legal costs field, with aspirations to develop into a Costs Draftsperson or Lawyer.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and review Legal Aid Agency (LAA) communications, notifications, and High Cost Case Plan updates.
Organise and save relevant communications within the case management system.
Support the Family Department with processing disbursement claims and expert invoices, liaising with fee earners, accounts, and external parties.
Handle allocation of counsel fees via the LAA Client and Cost Management System (CCMS).
Bill Legal Help files and assist with broader billing tasks within the Costs Department.
For experienced candidates: prepare and bill Family legal aid files (fixed fee and hourly rate cases).
Requirements:
Previous experience with legal aid billing, particularly through CCMS.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Costsmaster software.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Role Details:
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5.30pm.
Remote Working: Flexible, with remote options considered based on individual circumstances.
