Family Support Worker - Residential Family Centre

?? Location: Southampton, England

?? Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week) Plus On Call Service

?? Salary: £26000 to £28000 per annum (FTE) Plus Shift Allowance

?? Contract: Permanent | Enhanced DBS required

We are seeking a Family Support Worker to join our Residential Family Centre in Southampton, where you'll play a key role in supporting parents and children as they undergo family assessments. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a specialist team helping to safeguard children and promote positive parenting.

About the Role

As a Family Support Worker, you'll work closely with parents and children in a residential setting, offering practical support, guidance, and role modelling in areas such as parenting, daily routines, and emotional wellbeing.

You’ll support the delivery of robust and evidence-based parenting assessments, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure children are safe and families are given the best opportunity to grow and succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • • Support families in line with their placement plans and assessment objectives.
  • • Provide consistent, positive role modelling in parenting and child development.
  • • Encourage family participation in planned activities, assessments, and community involvement.
  • • Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all residents.
  • • Monitor and report on progress through clear and professional record-keeping.
  • • Participate in shift work, including sleep-ins and the on-call rota.
  • • Work closely with colleagues, social workers, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • Qualifications:
What We’re Looking For

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it)

Experience:

Previous experience working with children and families is desirable, though not essential - full training will be provided.

  • Skills & Attributes:
  • Confidence working with parents with complex needs.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive way.
  • Strong team player with a positive and professional attitude.
