Family Support Worker (Disability Team) â 3 Month Contract
Location: Colindale hybrid 2-3 days in the office including visits to families
Rate: £27.28 per hour (Umbrella)
Working Pattern: Hybrid â 2 to 3 days office-based, including visits to families
Contract: Temporary (3 Months)
Pay: Bi-weekly
Summary
This temporary 3-month role within the Disability Team focuses on providing practical, emotional, and targeted support to vulnerable children, young people, and their families. The Family Support Worker will directly engage with families to enhance outcomes for children, promote wellbeing, and strengthen family resilience while supporting safeguarding objectives. The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external agencies to ensure families receive the necessary support.
Responsibilities
Family Support & Intervention
Deliver direct support and interventions to children, young people, and their families.
Build positive relationships with children and carers.
Assist families in addressing challenges affecting a child's wellbeing and development.
Promote positive outcomes through planned interventions and support programmes.
Disability Support
Work with children and young people with disabilities and their families.
Facilitate access to appropriate services and resources.
Assist in identifying needs and implementing support plans.
Promote inclusion, independence, and participation.
Safeguarding & Child Welfare
Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns.
Contribute to safeguarding plans and child-focused interventions.
Maintain awareness of risk factors and support families in risk reduction.
Ensure children's welfare is central to all work.
Partnership & Multi-Agency Working
Collaborate with social workers, education professionals, health services, and partner agencies.
Attend meetings, reviews, and case discussions.
Support the implementation of agreed plans and outcomes.
Liaise effectively with professionals for coordinated support.
Home Visits & Community-Based Support
Conduct visits to children and families in their homes and community settings.
Monitor progress and provide practical guidance and support.
Maintain professional relationships while ensuring child safety.
Record Keeping & Reporting
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records.
Complete reports, assessments, and case notes to a high standard.
Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
Update systems and records within required timescales.
Requirements
Requirements:
Knowledge
Understanding of safeguarding children and young people.
Knowledge of child development and family support principles.
Awareness of challenges faced by vulnerable children and families.
Knowledge of working with children and young people with disabilities.
Experience
Significant experience in direct work with vulnerable children and families.
Experience in social care, education, youth work, or family support settings.
Experience working with or supporting children and young people with disabilities.
Experience in a multi-agency environment.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build trusting relationships with children and families.
Strong observation and assessment skills.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and competing priorities.
Good report-writing and record-keeping skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
Qualifications
Relevant qualification in Childcare, Health & Social Care, Family Support, Youth Work, or a related field.
Additional training or qualifications in safeguarding, disability support, or family intervention (desirable).
Additional Information
Immediate start available.
Previous local authority or council experience is highly desirable.
Experience with direct work with vulnerable children and families is essential.
Understanding of working with children and young people with disabilities is essential.
