Pine Media is a Sheffield-based alternative Internet Service Provider (ISP), specialising in delivering Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connectivity to both businesses and residential customers across urban and rural areas. We are constructing our own fibre optic network, utilising a combination of Openreach ducts and poles, as well as our own infrastructure.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Fibre Jointing Engineer to join our Fibre Network Delivery (FND) team. You’ll deliver high-quality splicing across active and passive infrastructure, ensuring our builds meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and maintainability. You will also act as a technical lead within the field team—mentoring others, supporting network design reviews, and setting Pine Media’s physical fibre standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute high-quality fibre splicing across both active and passive infrastructure.
  


• Define, maintain, and enforce physical fibre standards, including labelling, documentation, and testing procedures.
  


• Conduct risk assessments and support sign-off of new infrastructure builds.
  


• Review network designs to ensure best practice in optical quality, maintainability, and long-term resilience.
  


• Diagnose and resolve infrastructure quality issues, such as poor splices, water ingress, or fibre routing concerns.
  


• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of works carried out.
  


• Act as a mentor to junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.
  


• Participate in occasional out-of-hours work to support reactive maintenance or urgent network restoration.

Job Details

Job Type: Full-time (Permanent) or Contractor (CIS) Salary: £31,000 – £34,000 DOE Contractor: Rate negotiable Schedule: Mon–Fri (OOH as required) Location: Within 1 hour of Sheffield On-site role

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in fibre jointing and splicing within FTTP/FTTH PON networks.
  


• Strong ability and proficiency working in high capacity fibre joints, routing, wrapping and securing new and existing fibres.


• Proven expertise in live network work and high-density fibre builds.
  


• Strong knowledge of joint closures, fibre routing, slack management, and tray organisation.
  


• Proficient in OTDR testing, fault diagnostics, and use of core fusion splicers (Sumitomo, Fujikura, or equivalent).
  


• Excellent attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
  


• Able to interpret and contribute to network and splice design diagrams.
  


• Confident working independently and taking ownership of infrastructure projects.
  


• Full UK driving licence.
