Trinity Business Support is looking for a time-served Field Service Engineer to work out of our client's yard in Bishop Auckland, covering the surrounding areas. You'll be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of forklifts, lifting equipment, and plant machinery.
No two days are the same in this role — you'll be immersed in a wide range of tasks across an extensive product range, from pallet trucks and forklifts to telehandlers and excavators. Your expertise will drive operational efficiency by troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, carrying out scheduled maintenance, and delivering excellent customer service. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with diverse machinery while providing proactive solutions that keep operations running smoothly.
Duties
* Conduct comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on forklift trucks (FLT) and plant equipment to ensure safety and operational standards are met
* Carry out fabrication, welding, soldering, and schematics-based troubleshooting to resolve mechanical and electrical issues
* Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to assemble, disassemble, repair, and maintain machinery components
* Perform routine maintenance such as lubrication, calibration, and system checks to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan
* Assist with heavy lifting tasks using appropriate lifting gear or machinery while adhering to safety protocols
* Diagnose electrical systems using schematics and circuit diagrams, repairing or replacing faulty wiring or components as needed
* Provide on-site customer service by communicating technical information clearly, offering prompt solutions, and ensuring customer satisfaction during service visits
Requirements
* A flexible, self-motivated approach to work, ensuring all tasks are completed
* Proven experience in fabrication, welding, soldering, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical assembly of heavy machinery
* Strong knowledge of electrical schematics and hydraulic diagrams for plant equipment
* Hands-on experience with excavators, forklifts (FLT), and other heavy plant machinery is highly desirable
* Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools
* Combined mechanical and electrical knowledge to accurately diagnose issues across diverse systems
* Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining high safety standards
* Excellent customer service skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving in fast-paced environments
Pay & Working Hours
* Up to £42,000 per annum basic, based on experience
* Monday to Friday, 08:30–16:30
* Overtime available before 08:30 and after 16:30, paid at 1.33x
* Weekend availability required — flexibility is essential
* Occasional overnight travel for call-outs, with hotel accommodation provided
