Job Description - Field Service Engineer (Diagnostic Imaging)

*Please note: These roles are based all over the UK, not just London specific.

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Service Engineer specializing in Diagnostic Imaging equipment, including MRI, CT, and X-ray systems. The successful candidate will travel between hospital sites to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain imaging systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment such as MRI, CT, and X-ray systems.
  • Travel to various hospital sites to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Utilize strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills to identify and resolve problems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of vendor training and certifications.

Educational Background:

  • HNC/HND or Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Medical Physics or a related technical field

Technical Certifications & Training:

  • OEM Training: Certifications from manufacturers like Siemens, GE, Philips, or Canon are highly desirable.
  • Multi-modality Training: Experience across MRI, CT, X-ray, and ultrasound systems is a big plus.
  • CPD Courses: Continuing Professional Development in imaging systems, safety protocols, and troubleshooting.

Core Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and service manuals.
  • Familiarity with PACS/RIS systems and DICOM standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication skills for working with clinical teams.

Practical Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence (since the role involves travel between hospital sites).
  • Willingness to be part of an on-call rota or work flexible hours.
  • Ability to lift and handle equipment (often up to 35–40 lbs).

Experience:

  • 2–5 years in a similar field service or hospital-based engineering role is often expected.
  • Experience working in NHS environments or with private healthcare providers is a bonus.
