Job Description - Finance Assistant

Finance Assistant

Salary: £27k - £29k + great company benefits package

Location: Hove

Hours: Mon-Fri 9am - 17.30pm (hybrid options - 3 days office based and 2 days from home)

Free parking available.

Are you an experienced Finance Assistant looking to join a forward-thinking and expanding organisation? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive team where you can take ownership of a varied finance role while developing your skills in a collaborative environment.

You will support a small finance function with a range of tasks including bookkeeping, reconciliations, invoicing, VAT returns, and preparation of management accounts. The ideal candidate will have a strong finance background, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update financial records using Xero
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations
  • Manage supplier invoices, reconcile against costings, and arrange payments
  • Create and issue customer invoices, track payments, and chase outstanding balances
  • Prepare quarterly VAT returns and assist with year-end reporting for accountants
  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Check, record, and process employee expenses
  • Assist with Companies House filings and other administrative finance tasks

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a finance, bookkeeping, or office-based accounts role
  • Proficient in Xero and Microsoft Excel
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to prioritise workload effectively
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • AAT Level 2 qualification is preferred but not essential
  • Experience supporting senior staff or working in a small team is advantageous
