Finance Director | Independent Trade Publisher | London | Permanent

Our partner: Our partner is an independent London -based publisher with a strong global presence, producing a wide range of illustrated books, reference titles, puzzles, games and children’s publishing. Known for combining creativity with commercial focus, they have built an international sales network and a diverse list that reaches readers worldwide.
Responsibilities:
- Lead financial strategy aligned to long -term growth, providing clear direction and commercial insight at board level.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and the delivery of accurate monthly management accounts and KPI reporting.
- Ensure robust financial control, including cashflow management, working capital oversight, FX exposure and statutory compliance.
- Partner with Sales, Editorial, Production and Operations to support pricing, margin analysis, stock management and rights income performance.
- Lead and develop the finance team, while managing relationships with auditors, banking partners and external advisers.
Experience and skills that will deliver success in this role: The successful candidate will be a qualified finance leader with a strong track record in strategic and hands -on roles within dynamic, commercially driven environments. They will be comfortable operating at board level while remaining close to the detail.
Essential:
- Qualified accountant (i.e. ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Significant experience, including senior finance leadership responsibility.
- Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and business partnering.
- Strong analytical capability, with the confidence to provide strategic challenge and commercial insight.
- Experience operating in an SME or independent business environment, with a practical, hands -on approach.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of royalties, rights income, stock costing and international sales.
- Experience leading finance system or ERP improvements.
- Commercial experience evaluating new products, territories or international expansion opportunities.
