Elevation Senior Finance are delighted to be partnering with Barnsley Hospice as they look to recruit a dynamic and strategic Finance Manager who will be responsible for the management of the finance team, and for taking the lead with all internal and external reporting requirements.

Barnsley Hospice is a well-respected local charity providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families across the region. With an annual income of £5–6 million, they rely significantly on fundraising and retail operations to support over half of their charitable services. With the support of the Director of Finance, the Finance Manager will play a key role in overseeing the charity’s operational finances and supporting the organisation's long-term sustainability.

As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the operational and strategic delivery of all finance-related functions. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, and acting as their deputy when required, you’ll be a key member of the wider Senior Leadership Team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the finance team and ensuring robust financial controls, systems, and policies
• Delivering accurate financial reporting to senior leadership and trustees
• Driving improvements in financial systems, processes, and cash management
• Overseeing budget planning, forecasting, and performance monitoring across the organisation
• Managing audit, payroll, and compliance in line with SORP and statutory requirements
• Supporting investment appraisals, grant applications, and strategic decision-making.

This is a high-impact role where you will influence the future of a vital community charity and contribute directly to its financial sustainability.

Key skills required:

• Proven experience in financial management
• A recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• 1-2 years post qualification experience
• Experience of working in audit for a Practice preferred
• Strong technical knowledge of financial controls, compliance, and reporting requirements
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to manage change effectively

The successful candidate should also be motivated by the organisations mission and values and be willing to represent the Hospice positively within the local community and partner networks.
