Financial Accountant/Finance Manager

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Finance Director, this Financial Accountant role offers a vital position in a close-knit finance team of three. The business is at a pivotal stage of growth and transition, requiring someone dependable, inquisitive, and hands-on in their approach.

This role is predominantly focused on the core financial accounting function, with scope to assist in more management accounts and statutory accounting duties in time. It is ideal for someone looking to embed themselves long-term in a stable and values-led company and be instrumental in helping to lead improvements and make the systems more stringent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preparation of monthly VAT returns (UK and international) - a major part of the role
• Month-end routines including journal postings, accruals, prepayments
• Balance sheet and bank reconciliations
• Preparation for payroll (processed by an outsourced bureau - 35 employees)
• Accounts payable - end-to-end processing and supplier liaison (approx. 40 suppliers)
• Accounts receivable - light workload, includes charging client retentions
• Running weekly and monthly payment runs, including CIS payments
• Assist in year-end financials and liaison with external accountants
• Support in statutory accounts prep
• Occasional involvement in management accounts prep, as required
• Some involvement with imports and exports, helpful but not essential
• Play an active role in reviewing and improving current processes, especially within Sage

What We're Looking For:

• Experienced user of Sage - non-negotiable
• Strong VAT knowledge - UK is essential; international exposure is a bonus
• Proven background in AP, AR, month-end, bank/balance sheet recs
• Hands-on and not afraid to question existing processes
• Friendly and conscientious with a collaborative mindset
• Comfortable in a role where change is needed and have ideas
• Any past involvement in process improvement or systems change would be advantageous
