Financial Controller

Annual Salary: £60,000

We are working on behalf of our client to recruit an experienced and proactive Financial Controller to join their fully office-based team in Gateshead. This is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing the finance function and supporting the business through a period of system transition and growth. The ideal candidate will be confident in managing a small team, highly proficient in SAGE (with SAGE 50 and 200 experience desirable), and capable of taking full ownership of the finance operation.

• Manage and support a finance team of 3–4 staff, including an Assistant Accounts Manager
• Oversee Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger functions
• Lead the transition to SAGE 200 and ensure smooth implementation
• Conduct bank reconciliations, VAT returns, and fixed asset depreciation
• Produce and analyse KPIs, and manage month-end and year-end processes
• Administer finance-related documentation, including finance agreements
• Oversee outsourced payroll, including setup and ongoing administration
• Ensure accuracy of holiday entitlement and payroll allocations
• Maintain HR records, including employee registration and compliance
• Collaborate with the outgoing Financial Controller for a structured handover

• Proven experience in a similar Financial Controller role
• Strong working knowledge of SAGE (SAGE 50 and 200 highly desirable)
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
• Confident managing both people and processes
• Comfortable working in a fully office-based environment
