Financial Controller – About our client:

An ambitious and fast-growing business based in Hertford is seeking a hands-on yet strategic Financial Controller. This is a newly created role, designed to take ownership of the finance function, provide forward-looking financial insight, and help drive the company’s growth plans. Initially, you’ll be rolling up your sleeves across all areas of finance, before building and leading a dedicated finance team.

Financial Controller – Details:

• Competitive salary with performance-related bonus structure
• Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm

Financial Controller – Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts and financial statements
• Develop budgets, rolling forecasts, and support strategic planning
• Monitor financial performance, providing analysis and recommendations to senior leadership
• Lead year-end audit and manage relationships with external auditors
• Manage payroll, VAT, corporation tax, and compliance requirements
• Oversee bookkeeping (initially), before building a finance team
• Implement robust cash flow forecasting and reporting processes
• Drive efficiency through systems, reporting improvements, and ERP/accounting integration
• Act as a key business partner, supporting commercial and strategic decisions

Financial Controller – What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance professional
• Part or fully-qualified (ACCA/CIMA)
• Industry knowledge of construction, project-based or manufacturing sectors is highly desirable
• Strong mix of hands-on capability and strategic thinking
• Experience with Xero and ERP systems is advantageous
• Commercially minded, with a passion for driving business growth
