Client

Since being formed in 1973, Sovereign Group have grown substantially investing heavily in training and technology to improve profitably and grow the business to meet clients ever increasing needs. The business is now part of Inwido Europe’s largest window group. The core business is the manufacturing and installation of PVC-U windows, doors, composite doors and other fenestration products to Commercial clients. The head office comprises over 180,000 square feet of manufacturing/office/warehousing facilities and installations are undertaken nationwide to Local Authority, Housing Association, Architectural and Contractor clients. The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Financial Director to become a key part of the highly professional management team responsible for the business's financial health, and long-term growth. We are looking for someone who will bridge the gap between day-to-day accounting and board-level decision making, acting as a strategic partner to the CEO to drive profitability and manage financial risk.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth within a dynamic environment, contributing significantly to organisational efficiency and operational excellence. Board level involvement in strategic development of the business.

Responsibilities

·         Maximising Profit with a particular emphasis on cost control and efficiency, working closely with other Directors and Managers to inform their decision making.

·         Tender & Pricing Analysis: Collaborating with estimators and commercial managers to evaluate profit margins, overhead allocations, and risk before a contract is signed.

·         Cashflow and Working Capital Management Work closely with the commercial team to manage cyclical cash flow and mitigate exposure to penalties.

·         Ensuring security of supply within the supply chain by being aware of supplier solvency as well as ensuring accurate inbound costs from those suppliers.



  •  Project Accounting & Reporting Ensuring accurate cost allocation and job costing. Cost-to-Complete Forecasting: Implementing rigorous   cost-to-complete analyses to identify early warning signs of project overruns or delays. Ensuring retentions are tracked and collected   accurately.  Ability to confidently challenge commercial teams, quantity surveyors, and project managers on project cost overruns and margin   erosion.

·         Risk, Compliance, and Governance Adhering to industry statutory requirements, tax regulations (such as CIS), domestic VAT reverse charges and external and Group auditing standards

·         Ensuring Group Accounting policies and disciplines are adhered to



  •    Strategic Planning & FP&A: Proficiency in mapping 3-to-5-year financial strategies, stress-testing tender models, and identifying profitable   market trends.

 

The Person

·         A fully qualified accounting professional, Chartered status combined with deep, sector-specific commercial experience. Able to manage complex project accounting, tight cash flows, and supply chain dynamics to protect profit margins. A detailed knowledge of the construction process and good financial practice as main and subcontractor

·         Minimum 10 years experience in a construction (main contract or subcontract environment), working at management level. 





·         A hands-on, pro-active leader and educator able to encourage, motivate and empower others, building team spirit with a willingness to balance high-level strategic planning with a "roll up your sleeves" approach to operational finance tasks when needed.

·         Excellent communication skills Exceptional ability to translate dense financial data into practical insights for non-financial operations staff, site managers, and clients and external partners.





·         Resilience & Crisis Resolution: Calm under pressure when managing volatile project delivery delays, disputed claims, and legal or contractual deadlocks
