Fire and Building Safety Resident Liaison Officer

Build your career in fire and building safety while helping residents stay informed, involved and supported.

We’re looking for someone with strong communication and people skills to join our Fire and Building Safety team. You’ll work with residents around fire and building safety works and investment projects, helping to make sure they are consulted, kept informed and able to raise questions or concerns.

This is a career-grade opportunity. You’ll normally join at Grade 7 and, as you develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed to take on the full responsibilities of the role, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to Grade 8.

The role

You’ll play an important part in building good relationships with residents and communities around our fire and building safety work. You’ll help plan and deliver resident consultation and engagement, provide information about works and projects, gather feedback and help resolve issues that arise. You’ll work closely with residents, colleagues, contractors, consultants and other partners to support effective communication and customer care throughout the work.

You’ll also:

• support resident consultation events and other engagement activity;
• keep residents informed and help respond to questions and concerns;
• gather resident feedback through surveys and other engagement methods;
• work with contractors and project teams to support good customer relationships;
• help resolve issues involving residents, officers, contractors and other partners;
• liaise with resident groups, area teams and other stakeholders;
• respond to correspondence and enquiries from residents, leaseholders, Councillors and MPs; and
• support the monitoring of customer care and communication across fire and building safety projects.

What we’re looking for

At entry level, we’re looking for someone with strong transferable skills who can develop within the role. You’ll need to communicate clearly with different people, provide good customer service, organise your work and deal positively with questions, concerns and sometimes challenging situations.

Experience of working with residents, customers or communities and supporting engagement, consultation, projects or services would be valuable.

As you develop towards Grade 8, you’ll build the broader knowledge and experience needed to work with greater independence, including knowledge of housing legislation and leasehold consultation requirements, performance management, contract and programme management within a construction environment, and good practice in community consultation
